DAUGHTER OF CAPULET - the label

Daughter of Capulet was my first label, launched in 2014 and finished in 2018. Each piece was named and quoted after a Shakespeare play, so my love of Theater (Even playing Juliet in my highschool play) definitely contributed to the name.
I began the label by outsourcing clothing to fit the brand, but in 2016, I changed directions to designing the pieces myself, and having them created locally.

It was bitter sweet saying goodbye to the label - I had grown so much through it, and decided that I wanted to use my passion elsewhere. So to keep the memory alive, I thought I'd pop my favourite quotes and pics in a little gallery below

But.... in September 2020 - I wrote and published my first novel titled.... DAUGHTER OF CAPULET! The story is based around Romeo and Juliet, inspired by Game of Thrones with a Cinderella twist - you can read more about it HERE

Kittens of Woodlake was the very first feature length movie I ever did! It was low budget (Ok, no budget), and the story is based around two girls who attend a strict boarding school, they find themselves befriending the other cabaret dancers when they work at a late night Jazz Lounge.
I am actually (2021) reworking this film into a Novel titled 'Sidney Lane" - so stay tuned!

I may have been a little inspired to write this blog post with the impending "Lock Down" looming over the world with the current Corona Virus Epidemic.... but it's actually been inspiring me to apply these for myself, even if I don't get stuck in quarantine or self isolation. Write a to do list of those chores you've been avoiding and get to doing them! Declutter those drawers and cupboards, repaint walls, move furniture around, give your home a mini makeover. As they say – a change is as good as a holiday!

Every night I run a bath for my 6 year old...who usually has something to complain about - while I'm thinking to myself "Damn kid, I would love someone to run a hot bubble bath for me, light some candles and put music on for me!" But really.. there is no reason why I can't! So make some more time for you. Leave the phone out of the room, and just enjoy the sounds of music as you relax.
Even look at some YouTube videos on hairstyling and makeup to try new looks and styles, and master them!

The list is endless when it comes to sorting out your digital life... but it's possible!
Emails - Sort into subfolders, unsubscribe and block those emails you no longer wish to receive, and empty out that junk folder.
Phone Pics - I am constantly deleting pics off my phone, (Which are usually filled with screenshots, memes, and the kid), but before I do, I always email the ones I really want to keep to myself, as well as I have a private facebook album that I pop them into.
Also, I make a yearly photo book with Snapfish, so I can have a years worth of pics into a collage photo book (Hoping that one day my son will care that I have been going to this much effort)!
Computer Files and Pics - Since I do blogging, my computer quickly gets filled with pics and files and word documents, but I try to delete them on the daily, and put the important ones onto a USB.
Resume - Even if you aren't job hunting, there is no harm in keeping your resume up to date, even with your current employment on it.
Emergency Contacts - something that I have had ever since I can remember, a little typed up laminating sheet with important contacts and insurance policy ids etc, that I keep in my wallet for emergencies.

For me, it's not really about finding the time (Because who couldn't spend 5-10 minutes at least a day), it's more about finding the motivation! The inside of the house is from the tv show Cougar Town (One of the best.shows.ever!) and then you have a spanish looking house (looove), Marilyn Monroes house (Because I like the spanish style, and figure I can at least do a similar look for my own house, should I not win the lotto and get the house above it!), then my dream car... (I actually did get a new car, but had to get a car big enough to fit a childs bike in it...so ended up with a #soccermumcar - but this will be on the list when he's 17 and can drive his himself), and then I just put in an image of an office flatlay, to inspire me to write more!

Netflix, Stan, Foxtel - our children will never understand the limit we had growing up - but we can literally watch aaaanything on tv! 
My favourite at the moment is The Bold Type - available on Stan (In Australia, not sure about the rest of the world) and is about the lives of 3 girls working in a fashion mag! Totally addictive!
Other shows I am in love with are Revenge, and then re watching classics (Well... not "classic classic") such as Dawsons Creek, The OC, and i'll rewatch the entire series of Sex and The City until the end of time.

My 6 year old doesn't really enjoy colour in, unless I am doing it with him - so this is actually something creative we can do together. So time to get out those textas, crayons and pencils, and draw and colour. If you have read point 3, I talk about my Scavenger Hunt Art book, which also has a Colour in Eye Spy section... so you can colour and play eye spy at the same time.

This is a fun thing to do with your kids, as you get to learn something new also! We have been learning a bit of spanish in our family - starting by printing out words and placing them on objects around the home.
You can also look at many YouTube videos designed for kids to learn languages, or as a cheat guide - we have been known to use Siri (Google for Android) to convert english sentences into spanish ones!

We were once all home sick with the flu, which was the perfect time to rewatch classics with our son! We watched films like Neverending Story, the Karate Kid, the Mighty Ducks and more! 
We also try to make Friday nights "Movie Nights" so it's a good excuse to wind down from the week, and enjoy family time.
With Netflix, Stan, Foxtel etc You can pretty much find any film - so grab out the matresses and the blankets and have a movie night!

I haven't actually started a vegetable garden at home.. I want to, but I can barely keep fake plants alive, let alone real plants and food!
But in saying that, I do know that if our son was involved in the creating process, he would probably be more enthusiastic about eating them!

If you are looking for a great video to do with your child for exercise and yoga, you must check out Cosmic Kids Yoga. The instructor has many themes to choose from, and your child loves it when you join them.
If you would like to incorporate reading with your childs Yoga, my best friend Teniele Arnold has written a book, titled Finding Your Happy Voice, in which you can read as well as it has a free link for mindfulness meditation dedicated for kids.

This one kind of benefits the parents more than the child....
The amount of times I've said "Oh I'll sort it out when he is in school".... and it backfires when I need him to try on clothing or shoes to see if they still fit...
If there is a fun way to do it - you can be sure you can find it online! Amazon has a great little book called I've Only Got Three Hands... which is a great resource to encourage your child to help tidy.

If you have some chalk handy, it's a great way for the kids to be outside in the sunshine drawing - and it's super easy to wash away with water or the rain. 
You can give them prompts on items to draw, such as a Rainbow, Butterfly, or themselves etc.

Another great activity using chalk is Hopscotch! First you draw the square images, and players then use a small rock to throw it on each number, starting from number one.
They then hop on one foot in each square, retreive the rock, and hop back!

I have an April born son, so there is a chance that we could be spending his birthday solo at home.... but all the same, we will still be having a party for him!

I'm at the stage where it's not really fun to play board games... the meltdown when my son loses is a bit much! But if you can handle it, time to get out those boardgames and activity books and start playing.

Starring Nancy Siren is an original musical theatre production, performed in Perth Australia in 2006.
Set in old time glamour hollywood, it is staged around a young woman called Nancy Siren who stops at nothing to become a star. This was the FIRST EVER script I wrote - and cute story..... I met my now husband of over 10 years doing this play - he played my husband in the play - and now in real life!

With lust more then love, murder and betrayal

She waits in the bar - for any man

THE EDISON AFFAIR FILM

The Edison Affair tells the story of James Edison's rise and fall as the Hotel Heir to the Edison Hotel Chain in Perth Australia from the 1940's
Born into wealth from his widowed father Frank Edison along with his older brother Frank Edison II, James takes over the Edison hotel chain upon his father's ill health and retirement.
A playboy at heart, James is married to the conservative Marion Edison, also his brothers ex, and ignores the protests from his brother when he wants to include nightclubs in the hotel chain.
We also meet his other love, the vivacious nightclub singer Scarlett, and follow the highs and lows of his relationship with his jealous brother Frank and his wife.

The short film follows the true story of Kay Kent - a UK Model and Marilyn Monroe Impersonator, who kills herself in the same manner as her idol.

Information was gathered from those who knew her well, such as her Neighbour and Family Friend Shirley, as well as school friends, as well as quotes obtained from UK newspapers.

As a Marilyn Monroe fan, I thought it was interesting that there was someone out there who was far different from the thousands of other Marilyn's who have been and will become... she really dedicated her life to the famous actress - by changing her appearance through surgeries, practising her voice, recreating commercials and timeless photography shoots.... to the minute of her death.

The Coffee Hut is a hidden little gem - in the sense that, from the outside it looks like an average cafe - but once you step inside, it is an Audrey Hepburn / Breakfast at Tiffany's style cafe, with posters, themed colours and more! I call it "The Tiffany's Cafe!" - and the staff and food are amazing too!

I come here so often, because I love the atmosphere, the food and the drinks. I wouldn't say that it isn't kid friendly, but this is generally where I go to catch up with friends, kid free! We've celebrated many birthdays and events here, including my 5 year wedding anniversary party - so it is definitely one of my favourite places.

Our backyard tropial oasis is complete... (and while I can't take any physical credit..I do know how to get my hubby to do my to do lists!) I wish I took before pics (Because I LOVE a good before and after!!)... but the main feature is the absolutley amazing beach wall murals, done by Perth Artist Samantha Prentice! I literally cannot stop looking at it, even when it is pouring with rain, I still feel like I'm at a tropical resort! If you are in Perth / WA - see her work by clicking on her icon further down x
